Staying Motivated | Rishi Nanda

There comes a time in everyone’s life where someone will surely ask you, How do you stay motivated? But more than how he stay motivated, they have asked me “What is the need for motivational sessions or what difference would two long hours of motivational session change in a person?

He would like to tell you all a little story; you remember the Ramayana right where Ravana kidnapped Sita? Yep, that! So taking that as a base let me explain how motivational sessions can help you stay motivated. When Hanuman Ji with his group of people were discussing how to save Sita; kidnapped by Ravana. She was in Sri Lanka. The dilemma was because there was no mode of transportation back then.

After long hours of discussion, Jambvan; one of the members of the clan reminds Hanuman that he can do that. Hanuman refuses to have any powers and then Jambavn reminds him of his powers. He reminds him of the time when he was a kid and was hungry that he jumped so high and ate the entire sun. He explained that he doesn't remember about it because he was cursed by one of the gods.

Jambavn starts to appreciate Hanuman and tells him that he is powerful and like a warrior he can save her. Hanuman tends to feel motivated and more confident after listening to Jambavn. Once he feels motivated and confident enough, he flies to Sri Lanka. Now, this is external motivation; when someone else reminds you of your skills and powers. They praise and boost up your confidence which helps you to find your vision and you walk on the right path.

Now, going back to the story when the war was taking place and many warriors lost their lives. Ravana’s brother abducted Lord Ram and Laxman to assassinate them. Vibhishan, who was Ravana’s other brother, fighting from Lord Ram’s troupe came to the rescue. He asked Hanuman to blow the five diyas at one go that were inside the castle as those diyas were where Ravana’s life was.

Hanuman somehow managed to get inside the castle but stunned and confused with the fact that the diyas were at different positions. He wasn’t able to blow them at one go and this puzzled him. After conflicting with himself, he closed his eyes and prayed to Lord Ram. He chanted “Jai Shri Ram” and when he opened his eyes, he had five heads and he blew all the five diyas at once. This is internal motivation; where one tries to seek the motivation inside oneself.

This reason why motivational sessions are essential and needed is that at times, one needs some external motivation to achieve your goals. I always focus on "Bigger the WHY easier the HOW!" One needs to have clarity about the vision they want to achieve and why they want to achieve it. Once they know the why the how find a way.

Quoting Muhammed Ali, “The willingness should be stronger than the skillset to be successful in life”. It means that if you want to achieve something life, do it with full conviction and how you will do it will find its way on its own. That is how you channelize your external and internal motivation.
