The road to Para Olympic 2024 | Vaishali Patel

I am playing Badminton since 2009 and also practice on a regular basis. My practice continues daily for 5 to 6 hours. On weeks off and Public holidays, I spare 4 to 5 hours for badminton. I am really passionate about this game and doing hard work to achieve a Gold medal at International Tournament and also planning for Para Olympic-2024.

Vaishali said, “I am very happy with my effort. I have trained hard and put in more sessions after taking leave from the office. I am looking forward to competing in the women's doubles at the Para-Badminton World Championships in Tokyo in November."

The Surat girl said, "For this tournament, I practiced for longer hours. I undertook a full 10-day training in Rudrapur under the guidance of Tokyo Paralympics bronze medallist Manoj Sarkar, which helped me improve my game."

Para shuttler Vaishali Patel won the gold medal in women's singles in the SU-5 (standing/upper limb impairment) category at the Uganda Para-Badminton International 2022 in Kampala. She also won a silver medal in women's doubles and a bronze in mixed doubles.

In the singles final, Vaishali defeated Spain's Cristina Sanchez De Lechina Tejada 21-15, 21-17 to win her first international medal in singles. In the women's doubles and mixed doubles categories, the SL-3 and SL-5 classes were combined because of the less number of entries.

In the women's doubles final, Vaishali and Charanjeet Kaur settled for a silver after losing to the Indo-Scottish pair of Vaishnavi Puneyani and Mary Margaret Wilson 8-21, 14-21. Vaishali and Dinesh Rajaiah lost 9-21, 17-21 in the mixed doubles semifinal to Sreeram Muthuraman and Mary 9-21, 17-21.

Vaishali Patel and Parul Parmar teamed up to defeat India's Mandeep Kaur and Kelly Edith 21-17, 21-19 to win the gold medal. The duo had thrashed India's Charanji Kaur and Maria Brenda 21-9, 21-9 in the last four clashes.

The pair had competed in the combined SL-3 (standing/lower limb impairment/severe) and SU-5 (standing/upper limb impairment) categories. After winning the gold medal, Vaishali said, "The victory means a lot to me.

The doubles triumph has helped me climb up the ranking ladder from 28th position to 8th. It has improved my chances to qualify for the Asian Games in China next year and the World Paralympic championship in Thailand." In women's singles, Vaishali bowed out in the quarterfinals, losing to Daina Rojas 11-21, 8-21.
