Out with the Old. In with the New | John Baldoni

Big move! And we’re in.

After 33 years in our house, my wife and I have “downsized” to a condo.

More living space. But NO yard. Just a garden area with a marvellous deck.

The old house – some 80-plus years old – was a wonderful place to raise our children.

Now that they have been gone from home for some twenty years, we no longer need the space.

Or the upkeep. Or all “our stuff.”

It was long past time to declutter. My wife is the master at getting rid of things. Two neighbours “girls” born during our years in the old house bought their own houses.

Both took some of our furniture. My daughter took other pieces.

My older grandson aged five when told we were moving was alarmed. He thought it meant we had “disappeared.” (He was reassured when we showed him the condo and when he wandered into the garden he discovered “secret steps.”)

Too much stuff still to move, but we’re in. And unpacking. And sorting. And unpacking. My little video studio came apart easily and went together again.

I had to say goodbye to my baby grand piano but in its place is a brand-new Yamaha U-1. A beautiful instrument that is a privilege to play.

The view from our back deck overlooks woodlands and a nature trail.

We are blessed.
