GOURAV THAKUR is a professional cyclist from karnal city of Haryana having an ambition to grow and net new records. Through his hard work, he earned his chance to serve in the Indian navy. The date he had to join was 25th October 2015.
Hailing from a middle-class family in Haryana, Gaurav Thakur wants to achieve whatever he dreams of. Now his dream is to bring gold for India in a paralympic cycling race and to achieve this dream he is all ready to put all his efforts with great zeal and enthusiasm he has the courage to face every challenge with firm determination be it sports or life all he needs is support.
Before the accident, he had not even thought of involving in any sports activities as his elder brother do. But when he lost his left hand due to an accident on 17th Oct 2015, his hope to live was finished and then his brother suggested he go for para sports.
The aspiring young lad with great dreams to serve the country met with one of the greatest challenges in his life, which turned around his life completely.
He met with an accident just a few days before. 17th October to be exact. He lost his left arm forever. He was shattered to lose the prestigious opportunity to fate. His family, mainly his elder brother Mr Rahul Thakur who was always an inspiration to him motivated him into participating in sports again. He pulled himself back.
Trained himself vigorously to become a sportsman again and won a bronze medal in the long jump, then slowly he trained himself to gain mastery over professional cycling overcoming his struggles and pitfalls. He could now ride his cycle without the help of his left hand and rule the roads and hills. Then there was no looking back
He cycled to Hatu peak of Height (11,152ft) using only one hand, and set a record of being the first Indian to do so. Also, set a record as the first Indian to successfully cycle from Dehradun to Mana Pass (18,406ft), he has been frequently participating in Kashmir to Kanyakumari group cycling events. He aspires to set greater records in his sport and aspires for the right support and guidance.
He is an inspiration for everyone who wants to battle their odds and reach high horizons overcoming tragic occurrences of life.
