Ageing is inevitable but we can protect ourselves from these robbers of our health and longevity.

 

It is not our biological age but these thieves who are our greatest enemies.

 

Who are these thieves?

 

1) Sedentary Lifestyle - If we don't exercise our metabolism slows down and we accumulate more fat and lose muscle. Muscles if ignored get replaced with fat and steal our strength.

 

Tip - A good combination of cardio and weight training is important as ageing begins in our muscles.

 

2) Poor-quality foods. These are full of trans fats, added sugar, frozen foods (high in sodium), Aerated drinks etc. They all cause inflammation and ageing is basically a chronic inflammatory state.

 

Tip - Instead, eat fresh, locally grown wholesome foods.

 

3) Stress - Chronic stress has been proved to cause insomnia, weight gain, heart and Alzheimer's disease-- not to mention impairing the immune and digestive systems.

 

Tip- Manage stress effectively with yoga, breathing/ stress management exercises and make time for your hobby each day.

 

4) Hormones - With age, our hormones change for the worse. More Cortisol ( stress hormone) and less hGH (human growth hormone) cause skin wrinkling and facial ageing besides other diseases.
