Embracing confidence: A Journey from Bullying to Confidence | Rachael Owoeye


In her childhood, her world was overshadowed by relentless bullying, making school a place she dreaded. Each attempt she made to speak up for herself was met with rejection, shattering her esteem. Growing into a fearful teenager, the classroom became a source of anxiety. She hesitated to voice her thoughts and avoided being bullied by becoming a people pleaser, often crying when targeted.


As she reached her late teens, the pain transformed into haunting trauma, leaving her resentful towards those who contributed to her suffering. Holding onto bitterness, she refused to forgive, allowing loneliness, hatred, fear, and anger to be constant companions, trapping her in silence and preventing her from forming her own opinions.

 

The turning point arrived through the therapeutic power of writing. Unable to speak, she poured her unspoken words into writing, initially as a coping mechanism rather than a thorough healing process. By the time she reached twenty, she embarked on a journey of intense self-discovery. Reading books, watching videos, and learning about others who faced bullying showed her she wasn't alone, providing strength to persevere.

 

To start her healing journey, she made the courageous decision to forgive those who caused her pain, although the weight of their actions lingered in her thoughts. Affirmations became her armor, aiding in combatting internal conflicts, while she indulged in activities she loved. She became intentional about embracing confidence, jotting down strengths and weaknesses, nurturing strengths, and actively working on weaknesses. She showered herself with gifts weekly, becoming a queen embracing her worth and confidence.

 

Practice in front of the mirror helped her learn to speak up, discovering that her bullies relied on her silence. With each word uttered, her confidence grew, surprising her as her voice resonated with newfound strength. Engaging in activities she enjoyed, presenting herself with elegance, cultivating genuine friendships, and embracing self-worth became her priorities, shaping the life she desired.

 

Now, as she enters a room, she carries herself with the assurance that her radiance is needed. Knowing her worth, she refuses to settle for less, walking triumphantly fueled by self-love.

 

To those enduring the weight of bullying, she emphasizes that strength is immeasurable and worth exceeds hurtful words or actions. Your voice matters, healing is possible, and forgiveness liberates from carrying their negativity. Choosing to forgive is for personal well-being.

 

Remember, you're not the cause of others' cruelty. Though unable to control how others treat you, you can control your reaction. Seek help, surround yourself with positivity, and know that brighter days await.

 

Bullying is a shared experience, varying in intensity. Your past doesn't define you; you're not bound by bitterness or enslaved by trauma. You're a work in progress, capable of evolving into anything you aspire to be. Embrace your inner light, dispelling self-doubt, lack of confidence, and self-rejection. You're undeniably great; don't let anything dim your shine.
