Act on Your Highest Excitement! | Abhishek Aneja

“My father could have been a great comedian but he didn't believe that was possible for him, and so he made a conservative choice. Instead, he got a safe job as an accountant and when I was 12 years old he was let go from that safe job, and our family had to do whatever we could to survive. I learned many great lessons from my father. Not the least of which was that: You can fail at what you don't want. So you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.” - Jim Carrey

From childhood, I’ve been a fan of professional wrestling, i.e. what the common folk here in India call WWF. I remember vividly that I had a dream of becoming a Commentator of Cricket or Football or WWF (now, WWE). But, studies and life happened. And, those dreams vanished. My father and relatives of the family chose the practical life path for me that I would be studying CA just like my father and I would join my father in his consultancy when I’ll be finished with my studies.

My life hasn’t been smooth sailing. I suffered from obesity, body image issues, seizures, vitiligo, bullying, childhood sexual abuse etc. which also played a huge role in paving the path for my life and career. The relatives told me repeatedly and filled my brain that I wouldn’t be able to a 9-5 job and I wouldn’t stand a chance in the outside world. It’s best to study for CA and join my father when my father leaves his job (and I finish my studies).

But, the divine had a different plan. In August 2016, my father passed away after a prolonged illness. It was a rough time for me and my family.

After getting myself together I had a decision to make, either continue on the practical path set by the family or do what my heart says for the first time in my life. I chose the latter. I chose the path which had the words ‘professional wrestling’ on it. My mother supported me throughout this journey through unchartered territories and I’m grateful to her. She has been a constant rock and she always tells me to do what makes me happy.

Before we proceed any further let’s take a step back, guys. It wasn’t a decision out of thin air. I always stayed in contact with professional wrestling mind you. But, the time it mattered the most was in 2011. In 2011, I became a fan once again after I came to know about ‘CM Punk Pipebomb’ Incident on WWE Monday Night Raw in Las Vegas, NV. Afterwards, I studied the sport with everything in my might. I researched, studied and watched everything I could get my hands onto. I wanted to learn about the sport and I wanted a career in the said sport whether it was in Pro Wrestling Journalism or in Performance Arts.

But in 2016 when my life took a 180 Degree Shift w/my father’s untimely demise, I thought that the universe is giving me a push or an opportunity in the aforementioned direction. I jumped on the professional wrestling path with both feet never looking back. I believed in my heart of hearts that if I do what makes me happy i.e. act on my highest excitement with everything in my soul, I’ll achieve what I’m destined to (even more). I’ll be able to earn a comfortable living soon, it’s just a matter of time. And, I’ll have no regrets at the end.

Since then, it’s been an eventful road no doubt but, I’ve been grateful to have the opportunity to work with individuals from different walks of life. Working in the professional wrestling industry as a Commentator, Analyst, Consultant, Podcaster and On-Screen Talent has been nothing short of amazing. I’m looking forward to working with Major League Companies in the Sports Entertainment Industry and ensuring a comfortable living for me and my family.

I hope that me sharing my life journey might inspire you in some way to release your fears and limiting beliefs, and push you to take the necessary steps to level up in different avenues of your lives.
